StudioRIP XF Workflow

StudioRIP XF is the latest generation of the powerful yet affordable prepress workflow solution from Prepress UK for CTP, Film and InkJet output. It is the ideal replacement for ageing workflow systems that are struggling to process modern PDF files where the original manufacturer's upgrade path is cost prohibitive.

Known for its outstanding screening quality, user friendly interface, high speed and a vast array of features for a fraction of the cost of competitive systems StudioRIP XF is flexible and can be configured to meet your needs. With StudioRIP XF every prepress task can be achieved in a single user interface including interpretation, screening, rendering, trapping, imposition and proofing.

StudioRIP provides a flexible imposition system with built in templates and pagination schemes for saddle-stitch, perfect bound, n-up and step and repeat work as well as fully customisable pagination and manual editing to achieve any result.

StudioRIP XF Client with Imposition

  • Imposition style library: A built-in library of commonly used imposition styles such as 2 × 2 book or saddle stitched magazine impositions comes with StudioRIP.
  • Custom imposition styles: Users can define custom imposition styles, which can be saved for future use.
  • Flexibility: The imposition styles allow the user to define imposition schemes even page by page, if the built-in common techniques are not suitable for the required scheme.
  • Manual imposition: Pages and pre-press marks can be manually placed, or automatic impositions can be manually modified.
  • Pre-press marks: Built-in library as well as user definable marks for placement of any colour bar, text mark, in fact anything that you can imagine from a PDF, EPS or PS file.
  • Bleed: Using PDF files, bleed will be correctly recognized and used in imposition from any page box you wish; Postscript files can be expanded and then cropped for bleed generation. Files with incorrect bleed can be modified and cropped directly in the StudioRIP client.
  • One interface: Imposition is done in the same StudioRIP environment, using the same interface, preview system and job management controls.
  • Pixel level control: Imposition can be examined down to pixel level, including the placement on the media (plate or film).

The improved speed of production through StudioRIP has probably been the most obvious improvement: faster plate production and faster printing of proofs. Prepress UK also helped us sort out profiles for our presses. We are now producing plates for each specific press and getting significantly more consistent colour printing as a result.”

StudioRIP XF's fully zoomable post-RIP preview with measurement tools and on-screen dot meter give you unparalleled softproofing of pages, separations, impositions and plates.

StudioRIP XF Preview

  • Check screens, traps, overprints of the actual plate data for 100% confidence that what you see is what you will get on plate.
  • Measure screen angles of any separation.
  • On screen dot-meter shows you not only the tint value requested in the file, but the adjusted tint value that will be images after taking into account plate linearisation, press calibration and tone curve adjustments

We are delighted to have been introduced to the team at Prepress UK. They came in, appreciated our problems immediately, and were able to recommend a simple and straightforward solution based around StudioRIP Workflow. We now have full data integrity from proof to plate and from proof to digital print.”

StudioRIP’s SGSS technology offers both hybrid and supercell AM screening as standard, and second order FM screening as an option, with a wide range of adjustable parameters (including powerful flexo optimised features) at a fraction of the price of competing systems. Hybrid screening allows you to run previously impossible high line screen (LPI) by transitioning from conventional AM screens in the mid-tones to FM screens in the highlights and shadows enabling you to hold a 2 - 98% dot on press even with screen rulings well above 200lpi.

StudioRIP XF Hyrbid Screening Highlights

StudioRIP XF Hybrid Screening Shadow

  • 4096 shades of gray even on line screen and resolution combinations like 150 lpi at 1200 dpi.
  • SGSS filters out the possible patterns caused by the dot gain of the imagesetter/CTP.
  • A low-pass filtering system smooths dot-gain spikes, offering perfectly linear behaviour after calibration.
  • CMK moiré is impossible with StudioRIP. SGSS offers perfect rosette consistency even on large format, high resolution and special angles.
  • Powerful Hybrid AM/FM screening as standard enables user to set up the minimum and maximum printable dot size to maintain highlights and shadows even at very high line screens.
  • Reproducing highlights is a key problem in flexography, and having pattern free highlights with good colour depth is critical in high end flexo print. SGSS flexo options offer extra smooth hybrid screens for flexography and advanced features to making printing easier and better quality.
  • SGSS offers a second order stochastic screening option.

StudioRIP XF includes automatic trapping, inspecting all kiss-fit separations during processing, analysing which is lighter and which darker, and then spreading the lighter colour to your exact specification to correct for mis-registration on press. Supports not only object-to-object trapping but also object-to-image and even internal image trapping.

StudioRIP XF Trapping

  • Narrowed traps: There are cases where the full width of the trap does not fit into the available spread area, in which case StudioRIP will reduce the trapping automatically.
  • Sliding traps: As the colour varies continuously across a vignette, the trap might jump suddenly from one side of the boundary to the other at some point. StudioRIP avoids this using the sliding trap technique.
  • Anamorphic traps: The mis-registration in the X and Y directions in the printing process might be different. StudioRIP can compensate this by applying different trapping in X and Y directions.
  • Feathered traps: A blurred trap that has a more pleasant look than the traditional sharp traps.
  • Colour reduction: The visual impact of the trap can be minimized by reducing the density of the trap to match the original density.
  • Density limitation: A colour reduction that acts selectively for traps with a density over a certain limit, relative to the original density.
  • High quality shapes: Excellent behaviour in junctions, in the proximity of a third color, and with slightly different colours.

StudioRIP provides three types of proofing to satisfy all needs, can output ISO-12647/FOGRA approved proofs and comes complete with built-in tools to calibrate, create ICC profiles and check your proofer is matching the intended colour standard.

StudioRIP XF Proof Check

Three types of proofing are provided with the StudioRIP Digital Proofing system:

  • Contone proofing is extremely colour accurate (typical average ΔE = 0.7)
  • Halftone proofing imitates the look and feel of the halftoned output with similar accuracy
  • Raster (or ROOM) proofing guarantees dot-for-dot halftone reproduction with a good colour match for 100% data-integrity by making proofs directly from the high resolution plate separations.

The StudioRIP Inkjet package not only solved our immediate problems, providing accurate, consistent colour proofs to ISO12647-2 standard, it actually speeded up the whole proofing process, with a 50% improvement in output speeds."
